The Cherokee is back, but it’s nothing like the boxy SUV with a pushrod engine everyone grew to love in the past. Instead, the new Cherokee is very much a contemporary SUV. The exterior looks more futuristic than anything, although some people find the headlights and front fascia off-putting. If you can get over the looks, you can appreciate that the Cherokee is a well-balanced SUV for outdoor adventures and urban driving. While the vehicle is not as adept at off-roading as the Wrangler or Grand Cherokee, it does come with a number of technological advancements that put it ahead of competing vehicles. Even with the optional V6 engine and four-wheel drive, highway fuel economy is estimated at 27 mpg. Besides, it can still outdo the Honda CR-V or Mazda CX-5 on a trail, making it a more sensible outdoor vehicle.
