Want a Four-Cylinder With Line-Lock? Ford Has You Covered
Ford has already revealed a few significant changes for the 2018 Mustang lineup. Recently, it announced one more change, but this one applies only to the Mustang EcoBoost.
This new addition? Line-lock! That’s right, Ford is setting up the 2.3-liter equipped Mustang with the tools needed to do a simple and badass burnout. This new gizmo will be available on models with the six-speed manual and the new 10-speed automatic.
How it works is the driver cycles through the menu until they come to Track Apps. From Track Apps, the driver chooses line-lock. Then, they just press and hold the “OK” button until the instrument panel says it’s ready to go. In a manual, you press in the clutch, mash the accelerator, and dump the clutch to start your burnout. There’s now how-to on the automatic, but I assume you just mash the gas pedal.
This system will allow you to smolder the tires for up to 15 seconds.
So, why does the Mustang EcoBoost need line-lock? To make smoke, of course. Sheesh…
What’s even cooler about this announcement? The fat that line-lock will be standard on the base-level Mustang. No options or packages to mess with.
This new features joins the slightly refreshed appearance of the Mustang, the aforementioned 12-inch instrument cluster, Ford MyMode with memory, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, more potent engines, available magnetic ride control, a performance exhaust, and the new 10-speed auto transmission.
