Recalls have been insane in the U.S. as of late. In fact, a Bloomberg report informed us earlier this month that the more than 60 million recalls this year is the most ever in the U.S. Well, we can add another roughly 38,000 recalls to that growing list, as Volkswagen had to issue a massive recall because of a potential fuel leak just before the calendar changed to 2015.

According to the recall documents, VW estimates that 37,979 cars in total are affected by this recall. The issue is that a seal on the end of the fuel rail could leak fuel into the engine compartment and cause a fire. The issue is identified by a gasoline smell, obviously, and a warning light indicating that the fuel rail pressure cannot be maintained.

The cars affected by this recall include 2014 to 2015 Jettas manufactured between March 28, 2014 and November 24,2014; 2014 to 2015 Passats manufactured between April 7, 2014 and November 18, 2014; 2015 Golf and GTI models built between July 1, 2014 and November 20, 2014; and 2014 to 2015 Beetle and Beetle Convertible models built between March 31, 2014 and November 27, 2014. Not every vehicle within these ranges are affected, so grab your car’s VIN (vehicle identification number), call Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-822-8987 and mention recall number 24Bi to the representative.

Once a car is identified to have this issue, a VW dealer will replace the fuel rail free of charge.

Don’t hesitate in checking out if your car is covered under this recall, as fuel leaking into the engine compartment is serious business and can become catastrophic at a moment’s notice.
