Volvo Reveals the S90

Volvo has been dangling the new S90 Sedan out there for some time now, driving fans of the Swedish automaker nuts. Increasing the craziness were the leaked images of a scale model and the numerous spy shots. Today, all of this stops, as Volvo has finally unveiled the real-life S90.

In terms of looks, the S90 carries pretty much everything I expected. Most of the styling was inspired by the last all-new model the brand released, the XC90. These styling cues include the Thor’s Hammer headlights, the larger and somewhat sunken grille, and the stylish taillights.

While the looks are a little polarizing in their transition from crossover to sedan, the features and safety of this sedan are unquestionable. With high-end equipment like cloud-based apps, a Sensus Connect touchscreen and high-grade materials, and the legendary safety record of Volvo, who can really argue its place in the market?

Under its hood, the S90 will carry some of the same powertrain options as its crossover cousin. The base model will feature the T5 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with around 240 horsepower, which it does not share with the XC90. The midrange engine will be the 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine (T6) that produces 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque in the XC90. The range-topping option will be the T8 powertrain that includes the T6 engine plus an electric motor to crank out around 400 horsepower in the XC90.
