Volvo Announces the Ocean Race XC60 at the Miami Auto Show
For those who aren’t boating fans, the Volvo Ocean Race is a grueling four-ocean, five-continent sailing race that spans tens of thousands of miles. The 2014 running, for example, began on October 4, 2014 and will not end until June 27, 2015, and in the process the teams will stop off at 11 ports and span 38,739 miles. Yeah, it quite the test of physical and mental toughness that few can actually complete.
In celebration of this even and the brave souls who take it on, Volvo has revealed a limited-edition Volvo Ocean Race XC60 at the Miami International Auto Show. As one would expect of a limited-edition carrying this name, the XC60 is coated in an Ocean Blue II exterior paint, but the additions go well beyond just the color.
Also included are exclusive, 18-inch wheels, inscribed “Volvo Ocean Race” door-sill plates, Volvo Ocean Race fender emblems, a Volvo Ocean Rave deco inlay, an exclusive start-up logo in the Sensus display, black or blonde leather interior with orange contrast stitching, and contrast-stitched floor mats and luggage compartment mat with Volvo Ocean Race rubber tags.
This special model is available on the XC60 T6 Drive-E FWD and T6 AWD models exclusively, and they cost $42,100 and $43,600, respectively. The T6 Drive-E AWD model features a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that’s good for 302 horses and 295 pound-feet of torque, whereas the T6 AWD model features a turbocharged 3.0-liter with 300 horses and 325 pound-feet of torque.
Volvo didn’t make any mention of when the Ocean Race XC60s will be available for purchase, but I think it’s safe to assume that the order books are open now.
