Video: Mercedes Teases AMG GT Further

With the new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT sports car quickly approaching a full reveal, the automaker is helping wet everyone’s appetites a little more by teasing the model in a new video. The launch of the AMG GT is a huge one for the brand, considering it will be going head-to-head against the venerable Porsche 911. Considering how many other vehicles throughout the years have tried to take on the 911 and have lost big, Mercedes definitely has its work cut out.

That’s not to say that the AMG GT won’t be up to the task. From what is previewed in the video, the car looks and sounds nothing short of amazing. Its creators claim that it sticks to the ground like a go-kart, even at high speeds. Mercedes has already revealed that the car will pack an exclusive twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, which will be coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Anticipated performance includes a base output of 455 horsepower, with GTS models offering around 500 horsepower for even better performance. To help with weight distribution, the transmission will be pushed to the rear of the vehicle.

Multiple versions of the AMG GT will be made by Mercedes, although they will pale in number to the many varieties of 911s on the market today. Models that have been announced so far include the base GT, GTS, convertible and a Black Series version that should provide the most extreme performance.

The anticipated reveal of the AMG GT is slated for some time in September, and the car has been scheduled to appear at the 2014 Paris Auto Show in the early part of October. While nothing has officially been announced, sales in the United States should start up by the spring of 2015.
