The 2016 models are all in full-on debut mode as we near the end of the 2015 calendar year. We can now scratch the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser off the list, as Toyota has just revealed the details on its large SUV.

The list of new items is pretty short for the 2016 Land Cruiser, but with a cult-like following and as one of the few remaining “real” SUVs, Toyota won’t have to do too much to keep buyers’ interest.

The largest parts of the updates for the 2016 Land Cruiser are all technology based. One of the new tech features on the 2016 Yota is related to driver assistance, and it is the Toyota Safety Sense-P. This new safety system includes frontal crash avoidance, front collision mitigation, lane departure warning, auto high-beam headlights, dynamic radar cruise, and pedestrian protection. Also helping to keep things safe are the new blind spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert system.

Also new for 2016 is an upgraded Entune system that now includes Siri Eyes Free and a 9-inch display, a new standard rear-seat entertainment system with dual 10-inch monitors, and available Qi wireless phone charging.

Most of the 2016 Land Cruiser’s mechanical bits remain the unchanged, as it carries on with the same 5.7-liter V-8 that produces 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. What does change for the new model year is the introduction of a new eight-speed automatic transmission that replaces the outgoing six-speed unit. The Land Cruiser comes standard with four-wheel drive.

Other than these mild tweaks for the new model year, the Land Cruiser remains the same, feature-packed, off-road-ready SUV as it was in 2015.

Toyota did not mention a rough release date, nor did it announce any pricing details. I would expect to see the 2016 Land Cruiser in dealers in the fall of 2015 with only a mild price hike to compensate for the extra features.
