Trident Produces Insane Diesel Sports Car

New British boutique automaker Trident recently unveiled the Inceni, which is quite frankly an insane diesel-powered sports car. Plenty of automakers have teamed up a British chassis with a raw American engine, most notably Carrol Shelby. Sometimes this has resulted in some scary performance vehicles, and other times such experiments have produced hot messes. But the Iceni stands out from the crowd, considering it uses a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V-8.

In case you’re not current on your General Motors knowledge, that’s the engine from the GMC Sierra 2500 HD. It seems pretty incredible that such a large engine meant for such a tough pickup truck is nestled between the front fenders of a small, curvaceous British sports car. Trident has set up the V-8 so it produces 395 horsepower and 700 lb.-ft. of torque, allowing the car to travel up to 190 mph. By adding a Track Package, owners enjoy output of 660 horsepower and 1,050 lb.-ft. of torque, plus carbon fiber brake rotors to handle the insanity.

For anyone who doesn’t feel like taking their life into their hands each time they fire the engine up, there is a saner Performance Pack that has a top output of 430 horsepower and 950 lb.-ft. of torque, which is still pretty crazy. Handling all of that power is a six-speed transmission that is equipped with a torque converter that actually locks up once the car is traveling 1 mph.

Trident matched all of that power with some pretty mean-looking features. The Iceni has a side-exit exhaust, red brake calipers, a big bulge in the hood, and muscular rear fenders that scream athletic ability. Coupe models feature dual bubbles for the rear window, while convertible models actually have a T-top setup that is somewhat reminiscent of sports cars from the past.

Perhaps one of the most unique things about the Trident Iceni is the fact that car not only runs on diesel, it can also use kerosene and biodiesel, making it smell like a jet or a McDonald’s, respectively.
