Toyota to Reveal the 2018 C-HR in L.A.

Back in 2015, before Scion was given its death sentence, the funky automaker revealed a new concept dubbed the C-HR. Then, a few months later in September, the C-HR was rebadged as a Toyota here in the U.S. Now, Toyota has just announced that a production version of this sharp concept will debut at the L.A. Auto Show on Nov. 17, 2016.

It’s no surprise that Toyota is releasing a production version of this concept. In fact, it is actually about eight months late, as Toyota planned to unveil the production version of this compact crossover in Geneva in March.

The details surrounding the production C-HR are still very sketchy. We do know that we’ll see significant visual changes in the production model, as the concept was a little over the top with its styling. In the teaser image Toyota released (above), we can at least tell that the production model will feature the boomerang-like taillights from the concept, albeit a bit toned down.

While I anticipate a significant toning down on the styling, given this model will battle the funky Juke, I expect a little over-done styling. An example of this is the sporty spoiler you can just make out in the teaser image.

What’s under the hood of the production C-HR remains a mystery for now. The concept model boasted a hybrid powertrain, but Toyota chose not to reveal any details on it. Chances are, the production model will arrive with a small-displacement turbocharged engine at first, but don’t be surprised to see a hybrid powertrain come later.

For now, this is all speculation, but we’ll learn the truth in just a few weeks. Stay tuned!
