Toyota Shows off the Revised 2016 RAV4 Lineup, Including the Hybrid
Toyota redesigned the RAV4 just a few years back in 2013, and now for the 2016 model year, it has revised the compact SUV. Along with the styling update, Toyota has also unveiled the new RAV4 Hybrid.
The refresh is big news in iteself, but the biggest part of the 2016 RAV4 lineup is the new hybrid model. Toyota refrained from diving too far into the new model, but it did announce that it will have more horsepower and better acceleration than the standard model. This lends credence to my belief that it’ll carry the same 2.5-liter engine and hybrid drive system as the Lexus NX 300h, which delivers 194 horsepower in total.
The RAV4 Hybrid will come in only two trims – XLE and Limited – and they will come standard with on-demand electronic all-wheel drive. There will be six available colors for the hybrid model: Super White, Blizzard Pearl, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Classic Silver Metallic, Black Sand Pearl and a new blue.
Another new version of the RAV4 for 2016 is the sporty SE model. The RAV4 SE will comes with a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, SofTex seats, a power driver’s seat, a unique bumper and lower grille design, red-illuminated instruments, a 4.2-inch TFT screen in the instrument cluster, a black headliner, and paddle shifters.
The entire 2016 RAV lineup received a few visual updates too. The new front fascia features a much thinner grille, completely redesigned headlights, and a likely the sportiest lower bumper ever seen on a RAV4. The rocker panels also received a redesign, eliminating the scallop they had in 2015, and the rear bumper gains a new silver insert.
Also new for 2016 are the wheel options and three new exterior colors: Silver Sky Metallic, Black Currant Metallic, and Electric Storm Blue.
The interior received some updates too, but they are mostly in the form of new optional equipment. This includes a 4.2-inch TFT screen inside the gauge cluster, a 7-inch touchscreen audio system, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and new interior colors. Some of the standard changes to the interior include soft-touch door panels and lower dashboard, updated cup holders to fit tall mugs with handles, and new bezels for the shifter and power window switches.
There is no mention of pricing or when the new RAV4 will be available in dealers.
