Toyota Releases an S-FR Racing Concept
Toyota made it clear that it’s considering a model below its GT86 with the debut of its S-FR Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. Today, the automaker has now added fuel to the fire of this small sports car becoming a production model with the reveal of its S-FR Racing Concept.
Like the model that debuted in October, this Racing Concept features a compact footprint and body with a disproportionately long nose. Within this compact sports car, I can see the Toyota GT86’s DNA, but the over-the-top styling makes it polarizing at best.
This Racing Concept sets itself apart from the original concept via its lower and wider stance, massive rear spoiler, aggressive front splitter, side sills, and its wild rear diffuser. These changes make the S-FR Racing Concept 110 mm (4.3 inches) longer, 40 mm (1.6 inches) wider, and its roofline is 50 mm (2 inches) lower than the first S-FR concept.
Like the S-FR that came before it, this Racing Concept’s powertrain remains a mystery. The only thing we learned about the first S-FR was that it had a six-speed manual gearbox. My guess is that this model will make use of a small-displacement engine that produces somewhere in the 150-horsepower range. Given its small stature, this should be plenty of power.
Hopefully, we’ll learn more about the S-FR Racing Concept when it debuts at the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 15th, 2016. Unfortunately, I highly doubt that there will be too much revealed, but maybe we’ll get just a little more than the automaker initially revealed when it debuted the firs S-FR Concept.
Stay tuned for more details.
