The e-Golf has been fairly popular considering its limited release here in the U.S., but some folks don’t need all the fancy things that come standard on the SEL trim level – the only trim that the e-Golf was available to date. With this in mind, Volkswagen has decided to release a lesser-equipped Limited Edition trim that loses a few niceties and hacks $2,000 from the SLE’s price.

The key items that differentiate the Limited Edition from the SLE include 16-inch steel wheels with hubcaps in the place of the aluminum wheels, halogen headlights in the place of the LEDs on the SLE, cloth seating instead of leatherette, and the elimination of the heat-pump system.

Other than the aforementioned deletions, the e-Golf Limited Edition carries all of the same features as the SLE trim. This means it comes with an electric motor that delivers 115 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, a 24.2 kWh battery, a 7.2 kW onboard charger, keyless entry with push-button start, navigation, LED daytime running lights, Climatronic dual-zone auto climate control, a rearview camera, front and rear parking distance monitors, auto wipers and headlights, and much more.

Despite losing a few energy-saving devices, like the heat pump and the LED headlights, the e-Golf Limited Edition retains the same 126 mpg-e city, 105 mpg-e highway, 116 mpg-e combined, and 83-mile range as the SLE. On top of decent EPA ratings, it can also achieve 80 percent of its charge after only 30 minutes with DC Fast Charging and the Combined Charging System.

Before federal tax credits, the new VW e-Golf Limited Edition runs $33,450. Optionally, you can lease it for only $229 per month.
