Automakers are so quick to slap a special paint on a car, limit its numbers, and sell it with an inflated price tag to manufacture demand and profits. BMW has proved many times that it’s above this money-grabbing tactic, and it is showing that once again with its new M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition rig.

Sure, this limited-run sedan does have a special paint scheme that it draws its name from, and that comes courtesy of BMW Individual. This paint, known as Pure Metal Silver, is exclusive to this special model and is applied in a special manner that gives the M5 a light-dark effect. The multi-layer paint scheme starts off with a layer of Glacier Silver Metal as a basecoat, then gets close inspection for flaws and is coated in the special Pure Metal Siler paint. Adding to the special color are the 20-inch M Light Alloy wheels, M Performance Exhaust with carbon-fiber bezel, and the black M Performance kidney grille.

Inside, this limited M5 gets full Merino leather with contrast stitching, aluminum interior trim, a “Pure Metal Silver M5 1/50” badge, M multifunction seats, and more.

Under the hood of this M5 lies the same 4.4-liter V-8 engine as the rest of the M5 lineup, but Bimmer has tweaked this powerplant to produce 600 horsepower and 514 pound-feet of torque. These power numbers are boosts of 40 horsepower and 14 pound-feet, dropping its 0-to-60 time to just 3.9 seconds—a 0.3-second improvement. The 155 mph speed limited is removed as a part of the standard M Driver’s Package, putting this midsize sedan’s terminal velocity at 190 mph.

Also part of this limited-edition Bimmer is the Competition Package, which lowers the M5 by 0.4 inches and stiffens the suspension. Also improving its performance is a revised Active M differential, an M-tuned electric power-steering system, M Dynamic Mode, and M Carbon Ceramic Brakes.

The 2016 M5 Pure Metal Silver Limited Edition will be available starting in August 2016 at a base price of $130,900—a $36,800 premium over the base M5. Only 50 will be available, so best of luck digging one up.
