The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer Will Be Truck-Based
It’s no secret Fiat Chrysler needs cash, like yesterday. It’s also no secret Jeep is a cash cow. Naturally, FCA is going to milk it by launching the quasi-nostalgic Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Before you think they’ll be some plush mall crawlers, know both will ride on truck platforms from the Ram line.
Sure, the Grand Wagoneer’s supposed to be luxurious, but it will be a body-on-frame real SUV, just like the Wagoneer. It’s a big departure from the unibody construction for the Grand Cherokee. Quite frankly, it’s also a breath of fresh air.
One thing that’s become clear is the two SUVs won’t just be the same thing, with more luxuries on the Grand Wagoneer. Instead, they’ll be different model lines entirely, probably like the Ram 1500 and 2500.
If you were hoping for a big reveal in Detroit, it wasn’t happening, thanks to delays that involve reworking the facilities to assemble the body-on-frame vehicles. When it’s done, the Warren factory will kick out the new Jeeps, plus Ram trucks.
Once they hit the market, know that the Grand Wagoneer could have a price tag of about $100,000. The Wagoneer should be more affordable, but might still be a little pricey.
