Not too long ago, we reported how Jaguar Land Rover has established a new Special Operations unit that will, among other things, produce some insane performance versions of Jaguar and Land Rover models. Well, the wait to see exactly what Special Operations has in store for the first project is already almost over, and it’s a real treat!

Some of you might remember not too long ago the Jaguar concept car called the Project 7, which is an F-Type that features styling that is a strong nod to the D-Type and Jaguar’s strong motorsports heritage. Many thought such a wild concept car was a pipe dream, something that would make for a good poster and that’s about it. Well, it turns out that Special Operations has been cooking up a production version of the car, and it will be debuting at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year.

Of course, the production version isn’t just like the concept car. The low windshield has been dropped in favor of a more practical and taller design. Other changes include different wheels and a slightly higher ride height. Fortunately the fairing behind the driver’s head has been retained, and the car has gained a second seat. The passenger side has a small rollover hoop instead of a second fairing.

The really tremendous news about the Project 7 is that Jaguar is stating it will be its fastest production car ever. The supercharged, 5.0-liter V-8 engine will kick out 567 horsepower and 502 lb.-ft. of torque, while the body and frame will be made of plenty of lightweight materials like carbon fiber, making for an undoubtedly wicked power-to-weight ratio.

The bad news is that the car will be a limited-production model. Only 250 units will be made, and they will go for somewhere around $160,000.
