Lamborghini is very methodical and careful about releasing new models, so there is often not much Lambo news to go around. Today, happens to be one of the few days where there is actually news of a new model, as the Italian automaker has revealed the Huracán LP 580-2.

This new model rolls in with two key changes when compared to the Huracán LP 610-4, both of which are obvious to those of you familiar with the automaker’s naming scheme. First is the detuning of its 5.2-liter V-10 engine to 580 CV (572 horsepower) and 398 pound-feet of torque – drops of 40 CV (39 horsepower) and 14 pound-feet. The other change is the removal of the all-wheel-drive system, so the power goes to only the rear wheels.

The elimination of the all-wheel-drive system helps save a little weight, as the LP 580-2 checks in at 1,389 kg (3.062 pounds), which is 33 kg (73 pounds) less than the Huracán LP 610-4. This weight loss means that the power loss doesn’t affect this new model too much, as it hits 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and tops out at 199 mph – 0.2 seconds slower and 4 mph slower than the LP 610-4.

The removal of all-wheel drive also has a huge impact on the way this supercar drives. Instead of gluing to the tarmac like the LP 610-4, the LP 580-2 actually allows for a fair amount of oversteer in Sport and Corsa modes.

Lamborghini went all out to assure that this model was more than just a two-wheel-drive Huracán with less horsepower by giving it a slight restyle. The revisions include a new front end that has a slightly more downward-facing nose and three more-defined air inlets, while the rear end has a new fascia.

The Huracán LP 580-2 is available at dealers worldwide. In the U.S., this model will run $201,100, which is a well-equipped Kia cheaper than the $237,250 Huracán LP 610-4.
