The Fiat 124 Spider Gets a Sportier Elaborizione Model

The Fiat 124 Spider—AKA, the Fiata—lineup is starting to take shape as we have already seen its base model and the Abarth variant debut in recent months. Now, just ahead of the New York Auto Show, Fiat has unveiled another version of the 124 Spider dubbed the Elaborazione Abarth. This rig pays homage to the 124 Spider that won Fiat its first European Championship in the 1970s by way of a more potent engine and an upgraded suspension.

The first thing that stands out about this version of the 124 is its appearance. It features unique front and rear fascias, black side sills, 17-inch aluminum wheels coated in Gun Metal, and a quad-tip exhaust system plated in chrome. Inside, there is a Gun Metal headliner, mirror cap and roll bar, Scorpion badges throughout, red contrast stitching, a matte-black instrument bezel panel, an exclusive instrument cluster, aluminum-trimmed sport pedals, a unique shifter knob, leather- and microfiber-wrapped seats, and available Recaro sport seats.

Under its hood, the Elaborazione Abarth makes use of a 1.4-liter MultiAir four-cylinder engine that produces 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. That makes this model less powerful than the Abarth by 10 ponies, but it makes up for that with an exclusive set of Bilstein shocks, a mechanical limited-slip diff, monoblock aluminum calipers, and an available Brembo brake system.

There is no mention of when the 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth will hit the market, but we do know that it’ll make its in-the-metal debut in New York today. Stay tuned for additional information.
