It’s been threatened in the past, but this time it’s real: Dodge is killing the Viper, again. Let’s all have a moment of silence for a great American supercar.

Dodge announced the sad news recently, shocking many who thought the Viper had at least a couple more years in it. Even though the company isn’t saying why this is happening, it’s obvious we just don’t deserve such a wondrous vehicle. After all, Vipers weren’t exactly flying off dealer lots.

To end the Viper with a bang, Dodge is releasing five limited-edition models. The first is the Viper 1:28 Edition ACR, which is a tribute to the supercar’s lap record at Laguna Seca. Next is the Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR, which is designed as a nod to the 1998 Viper GTS-R GT2 Championship Edition.

A Viper VooDoo II Edition ACR is another special edition, which has cosmetic upgrades patterned after the 2010 Viper VooDoo edition. The Viper Snakeskin Edition GTC has a Snakeskin Green paint job and snakeskin pattern that’s a tribute to the 2010 Snakeskin ACR. The last one is the Dodge Dealer Edition ACR, which can only be bought through two dealers, one in Illinois and another in Texas.

If you want one of these limited-edition models, know that quantities are actually pretty limited. For example, no more than 25 of the Snakeskin Edition GTCs will be made.

Hopefully this is Dodge making idle threats and the Viper will be back in a few years.
