The Best Performance Cars of 2016 Under $30,000
2. Chevrolet Camaro
The last-generation Camaro was great, so it is no surprise that the all-new 2016 Camaro makes our list in its first year. This model year is more compact and lighter than the last generation, making the rear-driven sports coupe more tossable in the corners. It also comes with a handful of new powerplants that give buyers additional options.
The base powerplant in the 2016 Camaro is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot that delivers 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The midrange engine comes in as a 3.6-liter V-6 that injects 335 ponies and 284 pound-feet of torque. Topping the range—at least until the ZL1 and Z/28 arrive—is a 6.2-liter V-8 that pounds out 455 ponies and 455 pound-feet.
To remain under our price threshold, you’ll need to be at peace with picking up a base 1LT trim package for $26,695. Luckily, there is a little wiggle room for options, like the V-6 powerplant, the RS Package, an auto transmission, or even a performance brake upgrade.
