Right now, BMW, Audi, Cadillac and Mercedes should be sweating bullets. Alfa Romeo came out swinging with the Giulia, and if unofficial reports are to be believed, the car is crazy fast. Supposedly, the Italians took their wild stallion of a sedan for a nice little spin around the Nurburgring, clocking a cool 7:43 lap time.

Yes, you read that right: 7 minutes and 43 seconds.

For those who aren’t aware, the BMW M4, which is a great performance vehicle, was able to get around the ‘Ring in 7:52. That’s a pretty big gap in lap times, which would mean the Giulia is quite a bit faster than the Bimmer.

It really shouldn’t be too shocking that the Alfa Romeo Giulia spanks the M4, considering it uses a 3.0-liter V-6 engine that has Ferrari DNA coursing through it. The Giulia QV throws down 510 horsepower and 425 lb.-ft. of torque and has an exhaust note that sounds downright devilish. It seems that Alfa Romeo isn’t just rattling its sabre, but has given the new sports sedan some serious claws.

We already know that the Giulia QV supposedly dashes from 0 to 100 kmh in just 3.9 seconds, but the Nurburgring is about much, much more than just straight-line acceleration. The German track also pushes cars to their limits when it comes to braking ability and handling. Some questioned if Alfa Romeo could tune the Giulia to stick turns as well as an Audi or BMW, but it appears that the Italian sedan really does deliver an incredible experience.

For some perspective, you should know that the rumored lap time for the Giulia QV beats times set by an impressive field of cars, such as the Mercedes SLS AMG and the Lamborghini Murcielago.

Certain people also scoffed at the rumor that the Giulia QV has a top speed of somewhere around 200 mph, but that might not be just bloated expectations after all.
