The Acura NSX Looking to Offer Ferrari 458 Punch ay Audi R8 Prices
Speculation on the upcoming Acura NSX has been running wild as we near its 2015 release. Fortunately, Honda has been fairly transparent in developing the NSX, so we have been able to get some good ideas on what to expect. According to Whatcar, Acura’s head of development Ted Klaus revealed some rather impressive details on the upcoming hybrid supercar.
In the report, Klaus claimed that the goal of the NSX is to offer Ferrari 458-like performance in a price range similar to the Audi R8. Depending on which version of the R8 Klaus is talking about, we’re looking at a price range between $115,900 (base R8) and $173,500 (R8 V10 Plus). Given the 2014 Ferrari 458 Italia bases at $233,000, even coming close to it is a win for the NSX.
This added performance combines with the reduced emissions and increased fuel economy of the NSX, making it an even more enticing buy.
We’ve already seen plenty of concept versions of the NSX, including a 2.0-liter-powered racing concept with a “racing hybrid system,” but the lid will be blown off the model once it makes its debut at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Show. The NSX will arrive in North America in 2015, and it will roll into European dealers in 2016.
With this news, we can put to bed any ideas that the NSX will rival other hybrid supercars, like the P1 or 918 Spyder. However, Acura still has its bar set rather high in trying to keep the NSX in line with the 458 Italia in terms of performance.
Despite all the regulations and restrictions the government is putting on gasoline-powered automobiles, the future remains bright for the supercar realm. And the NSX proves this fact.
