Another new model year means more updates to the GT-R. For the While it is not unusual or the GT-R to get a yearly update, the 2017 model’s updates are both mechanically and aesthetically more significant than recent years.

To catch all of the visual changes, you may need to put the 2016 model next to the 2017 version, but once you do that, it is easy to see what has changed. Up front, these changes start with a larger V-Motion grille in a matte-chrome finish, a new mesh grille insert, a new lip spoiler, and a new front bumper with new air inlets situated just below the headlights. Down the sides, a keen eye will catch that Nissan has pushed the side sills outward to help direct air away from the car. The rear end gains a revised bumper, new vent gills on the outer edges, and a new center diffuser.

With the revised body checked off its list, Nissan then turned its attention to the sports car’s handling. It improved this by way of a more rigid body and an updated suspension.

As is typical for the GT-R’s yearly updates, Nissan’s halo rig gets a healthy power update too. This 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine gets a boost of 20 horsepower and 4 pound-feet of torque, putting it at a healthy 565 horsepower and 467 pound-feet of twist. These extra ponies head through an updated six-speed dual-clutch transmission that is now smoother and quieter than ever.

Speaking of quietness, Nissan also updated the cabin to include addition sound-absorbing materials and acoustic glass to keep noise to a minimum.

The 2017 Nissan GT-R will hit showrooms this summer. Pricing will come at a later date.
