Earlier, I introduced to you the revised 2016 GMC Sierra Elevation Edition, which meant it was only a matter of time before Chevy revealed an updated Silverado. Today is the day, as Chevy has revealed all the changes for the 2016 Silverado, which are actually fairly comprehensive for just a refresh.

The front end is where most of the changes happen for the 2016 Silverado. Up here, you’ll find revised headlights, a new grille, and a more shapely hood. Additionally, the new Silverado’s trim levels are even more distinct, as the WT trim features a chrome grille with black inserts, and compact HID headlights, while the LT and LTZ models get a full chrome grille and bumpers. Finally, the Z71 gets body-color inserts on its grille and the High Country gets unique grille inserts and body-color bumpers.

The backside of the 2016 Silverado has far fewer updates. Back here, there are only revised wraparound taillights.

On the inside, the Silverado seems to carry over pretty much unchanged, save for one tech upgrade. For the new model year, the Chevy MyLink system receives a mild update, and the new Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems.

Under the hood the 2016 Silverado carries over with a base 4.3-liter V-6 that produces 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, an optional 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horses and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the range-topping 6.2-liter with 420 ponies and 460 pound-feet. All three engines have variable-displacement systems that deactivate four cylinders in certain conditions to reduce fuel consumption.

In 2015, Chevy introduced a new eight-speed auto transmission that helped with acceleration, but it was exclusive to models with the 6.2-liter V-8. For 2016, Chevy is expanding this transmission to the LTZ, Z71, and High Country Silverados with the 5.3-liter V-8.

Chevy hasn’t announced an official release date for the 2016 Silverado, but given the calendar year is just about over, it will likely move quickly.
