Tesla to “Unveil the D” and “Something Else” on October 9th
Tesla boss, Elon Musk, is not your typical executive. Stuffy suits and an all-business attitude all the time don’t appear to fit his personality. He does what he wants, when he wants and isn’t afraid to let his real personality show while conducting business. For example, he initially wanted to name the upcoming Model III the Model E, and if you combine that with the existing Model S and the upcoming Model X, you have… Well, you can see where we’re going with this.
Now, Elon has announced he’ll “unveil the D…” on October 9th. After some snickering over the possible jokes my inner teenager could blurt out, I realized that he is talking about a new model for the Tesla lineup. Speculation has run wild recently, but the dust has settled and the majority of the auto industry believers this will be an all-wheel-drive version of the already-awesome Tesla Model S. In fact, a few outlets even snapped some images of a Model S wearing a “P85D” badge.
With an 85-kWh battery, and an electric motor that produces 416 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque in tow, the range-topping Model S P85 is already an insane performer. The most astounding of the Model S’ performance credentials is its 4.2-second 0-to-60-mph time, and an all-wheel-drive system will like result in a significantly quicker sprint time. We may even see the sprint time fall below four seconds.
Musk also said that he will unveil “something else” on the 9th, but failed to give us any details. This “something else” could be an announcement on the Model X or maybe the next-generation Roadster.
Fortunately, the 9th is nearly upon us and we can see exactly what Musk has up his sleeve.
