Tesla Announces its “Infinite Mileage” Warranty
If I were to ask you to rattle off a few drawbacks to electric vehicles, I am sure I would hear a few of the same things I hear from all the skeptics: cost to charge, time to charge, cost of the vehicle, it’s too advanced and what happens when the battery packs go bad. Those are all valid cons to buying an EV, and many manufacturers are finding unique ways to help easy buyer anxiety on these issues.
Tesla is one of the frontrunners in relieving buyers of their issues, as the Model S not only has nearly the same range as a gasoline-powered car, but it also has access to the Supercharger Network of charging stations, is rather fast and has proven to be pretty reliable, save for a few hiccups here and there that were quickly addressed. Well, we can scratch another concern off of potential Model S buyers’ lists, as Tesla has announced an unlimited mileage warranty on its drive unit and battery in models with the 85 kWh battery. The only limitation to the warranty is its eight-year time frame, but honestly, most people are changing cars at this point anyways.
This warranty eases the minds of owners by taking care of any failures within eight years, regardless of the number of miles driven. It also adds value to the car because it is transferable to an unlimited number of owners.
In typical Tesla fashion, the company isn’t only taking care of its future buyers; it is also retroactively installing this warranty to take care of existing Model S owners. This means that if you purchased a Model S with an 85 kWh battery a year ago, you now have an unlimited mileage warranty on the drive unit and battery.
With this warranty and its retroactive application, Tesla again proves just how unlike typical car companies it really is.
