When Tesla launched “The D,” which included the P85D version of the Model S, the industry stood up and took notice. Here was a 691-horspower electric sedan that could annihilate supercars from all over the world. On top of that, it could travel 253 miles per the EPA on a single charge and top out at 155 mph. Yeah, it was just a little sliver of awesomeness that grabbed headlines and shook up the automotive world.

Now that the dust created by “The D” has settled, Telsa is back to its normal ways of constantly creating updates to better its super sedan, and the latest update not only makes it better, but it also makes it quicker. Left Lane New is reporting Elon Musk, Telsa’s CEO, stated “Tesla P85D 0 to 60mph acceleration will improve by ~0.1 sec soon via over-the-air software update to inverter algorithm.” For those keeping score at home, that could push the Model S’ 0-to-60 time down to just 3.1 seconds. And by “over-the-air,” I assume Musk is saying that this will be a simple download that won’t require any real shop time.

Unfortunately, Musk did not go into specifics of this upgrade and whether or not it will enhance power output. Also left out of his statement were prices or this update (if any) and the rollout date for it.

The report goes on to say that the update will make it down to the standard P85 model as well, but the changes aren’t as dramatic as they are with the P85D version.

We’ll keep an eye on this development and let you know once Tesla plans to release it and its starting price.
