Saleen is bringing the original S7 back. Supposedly, the move is to celebrate a streak of motorsports victories that started in 1996. In reality, it’s likely more of a solid PR move for a company that lately has suffered some bad press.
The bad news is that the commemorative Saleen S7 LM won’t just be expensive, it will be made in super limited quantities. Even if you have the cash on hand to pay for one, you might come up empty-handed. Only seven will be made, so each one is guaranteed to be a solid investment.
According to Saleen, each S7 LM will use a 7.0-liter twin-turbo engine, which is rated at 1,000 horsepower. The engines are each being built by hand in Corona, California, where Saleen is based.
Admittedly, this is a nice departure from tuning Mustangs and slapping weird panels on the Tesla Model S. The fact that Saleen decided to make the new S7s more powerful than the original is a nice move. Too bad more won’t be made, because people surely would line up to wish they could afford to buy one.
There’s no official price, yet. Basically, if you have to wonder whether or not you can afford to buy one, you can’t.
