Restyled Mitsubishi Outlander Sport to Debut in New York
I am no Mitsubishi fan, but at least the automaker is doing what it can to stay afloat. And hopefully, we’ll see even more now that it’s in bed with Nissan. Recently, the Japanese automaker announced that it will rework the Outlander Sport for the 2018 model year.
Unfortunately, we will not see a complete overhaul – like the Outlander Sport really needs. Instead, we’ll see just a mild refresh. The 2018 Outlander Sport will gain new front and rear bumpers, and LED running lights. It’ll also gain a new exterior color option: Alloy Silver.
There is a handful of tweaks inside too. The cabin will get a new 7-inch Smartphone Link display audio system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a new floor console and a new shift lever.
The new console is a pretty big deal to me, as I’ve tested every year Outlander Sport since 2015, and they all have a weird, useless tray in place of the all-wheel-drive control knob behind the shifter on front-wheel-drive models. I’ve complained about this cheap-looking gap-filler every time, and with the new console, it’s gone!
Also new for 2018 is a Touring Package that adds a panoramic roof, forward collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, a rearview camera, and improvement in cabin quietness.
The 2018 Outlander Sport will hit showrooms in the fall. Pricing will come at a later date.
