Volvo and its performance division, Polestar, have released a new optimization package, and the first vehicle to receive this package is the special-edition V40 Carbon. The new and exclusive model combines a handful of visual updates with a few small performance tweaks to create a model worthy of a little extra scratch.

The exterior aesthetic updates to this special Volvo wagon include a carbon-fiber roof, black-painted mirrors and window trim, and exclusive 19-inch wheels. Inside the cabin, this carbon model receives red seat belts and what Volvo calls an “extensive equipment package.” Also noticeable in the images are carbon-fiber “Carbon Edition” doorsill plates.

As I mentioned earlier, this Carbon Edition V40 is the first Volvo to receive this new performance optimization from Polestar. In Sweden, this package will come standard, but the other markets will have to add it as an option to the V40 Carbon Edition.

The Polestar performance optimization package will be available with both the T5 and D4 engines. This package will push the T5 to 253 horsepower and 400 Nm (294 pound-feet of torque), which amount to 24-horsepower and 36-pound-feet increases over the standard T5 engine. The D4 will jump by 14 horsepower and 29 pound-feet of torque to 197 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque.

Beyond just the power increases, this Polestar performance optimization package also improves the V40’s throttle response, gearshift speed, precision and hold, and off-throttle response.

Volvo hasn’t revealed any pricing details on this special-edition V40 yet, but it did announce that it will limit production to just 343 units spread throughout Finland, France, Japan, the Netherlands, and Sweden. Sorry, no U.S. availability.
