Nissan has been plugging its Titan XD so often that many people forgot that the XD is actually the heavy-duty version of the all-new Titan. At the Chicago Auto Show, Nissan reminded people of this by revealing the details and images of the standard half-ton Titan.

While many folks may think that the Titan XD is simply a bigger version of the Titan with a diesel engine, that couldn’t be further from the truth. As Nissan points out, the Titan and Titan XD, while stylistically similar, ride on two totally different chassis. According to Rich Miller, chief product specialist for the Titan and Titan XD, “The TITAN and TITAN XD do not share any common chassis components.” Miller continued, “Even the lug nuts are different.”

In terms of size, the Titan Crew Cab is 14.7 inches shorter than the XD at 228.1 inches long, rides on a 139.8-inch wheelbase (11.8 inches shorter), and is 77.2 inches tall (1.5 inches shorter). It does, however, share the XD’s 79.5-inch width.

The new Titan will come in rear-wheel- and four-wheel-drive options, and there will be various configurations available. The cab will be available in Crew, King, and Single setups while the bed will be available in 5.5, 6.5, and 8 feet. Buyers will have five trim levels to choose from, including S, SV, PRO-4X, SL, and Platinum.

As we learned late in 2015, the new Titan will have an available 5.6-liter V-8 engine that delivers 390 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, and pairs with a seven-cog auto transmission. The base engine will be a V-6, but Nissan is remaining mum on the details behind this powerplant. The secrecy behind the V-6 engine could turn out being really good or utterly terrible; stay tuned to find out. .

The Titan will hit showrooms in the summer of 2016, and prices will come shortly before its on-sale date. Stay tuned for more details.
