Nissan Concept Might Be Digital Overload

Just in time for Halloween, Nissan has created a concept vehicle that is the stuff of nightmares, if you’re an enthusiast. Instead of being a hardcore driver’s car, the Teatro for Dayz is more like a giant rolling tablet that can be transformed into a mobile rave.

With the Tokyo Motor Show in full swing, the company took the wraps off a car that has so many screens it could easily overload a person’s brain.

There are numerous screens throughout the vehicle, many in unexpected spots. The door trim, seats and even the headrests can be turned into screens, allowing the driver to change their look to create a certain mood. Do you feel like sitting on grass, clouds or retro mustard-colored leather? All you have to do is use the humongous control panel screen to make it so.

The screens don’t stop with the interior. On the concept’s exterior, the driver can customize displays on the sides, rear and front of the vehicle, choosing different patterns, colors or even text to display for others. All of this is in the name of expressing oneself, kind of like tuning a car, but in a more fickle digital sort of way.

If you feel bewildered or confused about why such a concept vehicle was even built by Nissan, it’s probably because you’re not what the company calls a “digital native.” That’s the term for youths who are comfortable with using technology to express their emotions and share life experiences.

You’ll notice as well that the usual aggressive design qualities that have been present in new Nissans are completely absent on the Teatro for Dayz. It still has the V-motion grille you can see on the 2016 Maxima and Murano, but all of the sharpness of the design has been eliminated. What’s left is something more akin to a digital koala.

It’s not a huge leap to say that this revolutionary design could influence the next generation of the Cube, but it likely won’t be quite so crazy once in production form.
