New Mercedes-AMG E 63 Is Here To Rip Your Face Off

If you think the new E-Class is impressive, the E 63 is here to rip your face off with gut-blasting performance. The sedan looks sleek, but the average person would never guess a hulking 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 is waiting underneath to pounce.

The engine pushes out a thunderous 571 horsepower and 553 lb.-ft. of torque. Peak output for the S version of the car is massive at 612 horsepower, while torque reaches 626 lb.-ft. And you might notice from the picture below, the engine has a “hot inner V” layout where the turbos sit between the cylinder banks. AMG says this makes the engine more compact, plus reduces the dreaded turbo lag.

A specially-tuned AMG Speedshift MCT nine-speed transmission is included for quick shifts. It features a wet start-off clutch in lieu of a torque converter.

A new Race Start program optimizes traction for quick off-the-line acceleration. Drivers just press the brake pedal and accelerator to access it.

No matter which version of the car you go with, an AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system is standard. Torque distribution is completely variable, so you should be able to push the sedan pretty hard with little worry. You can drift in the car, thanks to a special drift mode that sends all power to the rear wheels and turns off electronic aids.
