The 2015 model year brought about the introduction of a new compact crossover for Land Rover known as the Discovery Sport. Today, Land Rover has announced the updates for the 2017 Disco Sport, which include some technical updates and a new appearance package.

The big news for the new model year is the Dynamic Design Pack. This new-for-2017 optional package is only available on the HSE and HSE LUX trims and tosses in aesthetically pleasing bits like exclusive front and rear bumpers, rear bumper-integrated tailpipes, gloss-black 20-inch rollers, roof, grille and mirror caps, contrast stitching on the leather-wrapped seats and shifter knob, exclusive floor mats, and metal finishes on the pedals and dash.

Also new for 2017 is the addition of the Land Rover InControl Touch Pro infotainment system that includes a 10.2-inch screen and touch-sensitive buttons in place of “hard buttons.” Instead of using buttons, this system uses only gestures—like a tablet—for navigating its menus. While this is cool on the surface, much like the Honda Fit, owners could find the lack of redundant hard controls a tad frustrating.

Land Rover has also added three new driver-assist features for 2017. First is the Driver Condition Monitor, which keeps tabs on the driver’s inputs and checks for fatigue. If it detects the driver is fatigued, it triggers audible and visual alerts. The Intelligent Sped Limiter is the second new feature, and it uses Traffic Sign Recognition to read speed limit signs and alert the driver of any speed changes. Once alerted, the driver accepts the new speed and the Disco slows down. Finally, there’s the new Lane Keep Assist feature, which uses forward-facing cameras to detect lanes on a road and make adjustments if the vehicle veers of its intended path.

The 2017 Discovery Sport will hit showrooms in August 2016 at a starting price of $37,695—an increase of just $240 when compared to the 2016 model.
