At the New York Auto Show, Nissan revealed the latest tweaks it’s given to its mighty GT-R. In the new model year, Godzilla jumps by 20 ponies to 565 horsepower while its exterior gets slight revisions and its cabin gets a few comfort-enhancing updates. Oddly enough, the latest teaser video for the GT-R has nothing to do with the updated model. Instead, it teases a new record that the current GT-R Nismo has broken.

The video (below) depicts the current GT-R Nismo racing down an airport runway somewhere in the Middle East with the words “Breaking New Records” and “Coming Soon” on the screen. I, along with plenty of other people, am intrigued and confused by this video for multiple reasons. The most obvious reason is that the GT-R in the video is not a stock model, and breaking a record in a modified car is nothing overly noteworthy. The second cause for confusion is the odd timing of this teaser, as the revised GT-R just debuted and speed junkies are all revved up to learn what the new GT-R Nismo is packing, not the old one.

I am curious if Nissan is purely looking to build up hype or if maybe it has tweaked this GT-R to match the anticipated specifications of the new Nismo-touched version of Godzilla. Only time will tell. For now, kick back and enjoy the teaser.
