Well, here we go, folks. Mitsubishi is about to deliver the final blow to its only remaining cool model, the Lancer Evolution. Fortunately, Mitsu is sending it off in a blaze of glory, as it will offer a more performance-oriented Final Edition model here in the U.S.

This new model, which is based upon the Lancer Evo GSR, comes with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the standard Evo. However, for the Final Edition, Mitsubishi cranked the output to 303 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque – gains of 12 horsepower and 5 pound feet when compared to the Lancer Evo GSR.

This engine mates to a five-speed manual transmission that delivers the power to all four wheels via Mitsubishi’s All-Wheel Control system.

Mitsubishi also updated the Lancer Evo Final Edition’s chassis to better handle this extra power. At the corners there are Billstein shocks with Eibach springs to tackle the twisty stuff. Up front, Mitsu added in a pair of two-piece Brembo rotors, which dissipate heat more quickly and reduce brake fade.

The Lancer Evo Final Edition separates itself from its brethren on the outside by way of a “Final Edition” badge, a black-painted roof, dark-chrome Enkei alloy wheels, a gloss-black center bumper and hood vent, and a dark-chrome grille surround. The body is available in four different colors: Pearl White, Rally Red, Mercury Gray, and Octane Blue.

Inside the cabin, the Final Edition gains a number plaque on the center console, black-colored pillars, sun visors, assist handles and headliner, and red accent stitching on the seats, steering wheel, shifter knob, console lid and emergency-brake handle.

Mitsubishi will limit the U.S. to only 1,600 examples of the Lancer Evo Final Edition. Each unit will start from $37, 995, which only $3,500 more than the base GSR trim. There is still no official release date for this limited-edition Evo, but we should learn that very soon, so stay tuned.
