Earlier in 2014, we caught a rather odd-looking Mercedes concept car under heavy cover, but there were no details at that time and it was clearly in a very early stage of production. Today, however, Mercedes has revealed a dark teaser image that shares the same odd shape as the undercover concept that we previously saw. I can only assume that these are the exact same vehicle just in different stages of production.

According to the Facebook post that accompanied the teaser image, it appears as if this concept will debut at the Consumer Electronics Show, which opens its doors on January 6, 2015. Given the chosen debut site for this concept, chances are that this model has no hope for ever seeing the light of day as a production model. Instead, this will be more of a technological display that will show off the future tech that Mercedes plans to offer.

The most important technological feature that this car will show off will likely be autonomous driving. Cadillac, Audi and even Google have all been open about their autonomous-driving programs, and I’m certain that numerous other automakers, Mercedes included, are developing their own behind closed doors.

Other features that this model may show off include alternative fuel (likely hydrogen fuel cell), advanced safety systems and a virtual dashboard of sorts.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long to see what this concept has in store, as CES is less than a week away. One the concept makes its debut, we will return with all of the details.
