Mercedes Releases a New Teaser Video and Debut Date for the AMG GT

The Mercedes-AMG GT has been the most-anticipated releases by Mercedes since the hot-selling CLA made its debut. Mercedes and AMG haven’t been overly shy about the details behind this new model either. Heck, they even released their images that showed the new sports car luxurious interior months ago. And now Mercedes and AMG have released yet another video that highlights the model and gives us an official reveal date.

In the video, Mercedes and AMG clarify things by letting us know that there will be multiple states of tune for the SLS AMG’s spiritual successor. The 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 will be available with 462 to 510 PS, which converts to 455 to 503 horsepower here in the U.S. It’s odd for Mercedes and AMG to reveal the car’s output prior to revealing it, but like I said, the pair haven’t been all too shy about the details on this model.

The biggest news from this video goes beyond just the engine’s output, as Mercedes and AMG have also revealed that the new 911 fighter will debut on September 9th, 2014.

This is all sort of bittersweet, as the new Mercedes-AMG GT looks and sounds simply awesome, but to know that this will officially spell the end of the iconic SLS AMG is a little heartbreaking. Fortunately, the Mercedes-AMG GT will retain much of the SLS AMG’s styling cues, albeit in a smaller package, but it will lose the legendary gullwing doors that made the SLS AMG so closely related to the 300SL.

Mark the date, ladies and gentlemen, as on September 9th we will finally get to see the fruit of all the work Mercedes and AMG put into the new GT over the last 32 months.
