The Mercedes G-Wagen or G-Class is one of the few luxury SUVs that can actually take on serious off-roading situations with a surprisingly rabid brutality. The vehicle was actually originally developed for military use but was then adapted for civilian life, including enjoying starring roles in several rap music videos.
To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the unique model, Mercedes has announced it will be offering a special G-Class Edition 35, which is actually just a package for the G550. You can pick out the special edition SUV thanks to its striking exterior with black roof, fender arches, bumpers, mirror caps, and 18-inch wheels. Buyers will only be able to order the vehicle in white, silver or black paint. A high-performance exhaust system helps boost performance slightly and gives the vehicle a much tougher sound. The Sport bundle is also included, along with more exterior chrome pieces.
As for the interior of the Edition 35, it is also distinct. Buyers can get it in the black and white scheme or in just black. Another exclusive feature is red stitching, giving a subtle sporty look.
No official announcement of when the new model will launch in the United States has been released. It also hasn’t been confirmed that the model will even be called the Edition 35 in this market, leaving open the possibility of a different name.
While the G-Wagen has changed in looks and opulence during the past 35 years, the overall design of the SUV has remained pretty much the same. A new generation of the vehicle is supposed to be coming down the pipeline in the near future, and it seems will erase the boxy, ultra utilitarian design.
