Since debuting in the new Mercedes-AMG GT, the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine from Mercedes has been spreading like wildfire across the German automaker’s lineup. Today, a report from Automobile Magazine claims that this small V-8 will make its way under the hood of the next-generation Mercedes-AMG E63. What’s more, this engine will pump out obscene amounts of power.

According to the report, Mercedes-AMG will tweak the 4.0-liter V-8 to produce somewhere in the area of 600 ponies. This would not only make it the most powerful version of the new AMG-built V-8, but it would also make the new E63 more powerful than the current E63 AMG s by a cool 23 horsepower.

The report doesn’t say whether this output was from the S-model version of the fast sedan, or not. My best guess is that this is the S-Model, and the standard E63 will live somewhere in the 550-horsepower range.

Another thing to consider is what else this potent 4.0-liter engine can power. There is the oft-rumored, but never confirmed, Mercedes-AMG GT4, which is essentially a four-door version of the GT. This would be a prime candidate for this small powerhouse. Also on the table is the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, which would be the perfect candidate for 600 ponies.

We still have a good while before the E63 makes its debut, so there is plenty of time for this report to take shape. For now, however, it appears as if this report remains unconfirmed. Keep it locked here, and we’ll bring you all of the latest news on this powerful sedan as the details roll out.
