McLaren to Show its First Sports Series Car, the 570S, in New York
After a long teasing period, it looks like the first member of the Sports Series will finally make its debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show on April 1st. This news comes by way of an official press release from McLaren that announces the 570S Coupe will be front and center at the show. Additionally, the automaker also released a teaser image (above) and a video (below).
The name spoils the fun of the tease, as the “570” indicates its power output of 570 PS, which convert to 562 horsepower here in `Murica. This power will likely come from the same 3.8-liter V-8 that the automaker uses in its entire current lineup. Repurposing the same engine may seem a little boring, but it does have its benefits. First, it allows McLaren to keep production costs low. Second, it means that McLaren has tested this engine countless times, so you can rest assured that it’ll take plenty of abuse.
The press release doesn’t reveal much else about the new 570S, but it does refer to the model sharing its DNA (and engine, of course) with the Super Series and Ultimate Series that are above it.
In terms of looks, well, McLaren isn’t all that creative in this sense, so expect the 570S Coupe to look a whole lot like the 650S and the P1. This is yet another way that McLaren saves production costs.
McLaren will reveal a few more details on the 570S in the next week, so keep your eyes glued here for all of the latest. Hopefully, it will also shed a little more light on the entire Sports Series at the same time.
