Mazda to Debut Koeru Concept in Frankfurt

Mazda has been making huge strides as of late, releasing cars that are innovative, fuel efficient, fun to drive, and inexpensive. Today, the Japanese automaker has revealed that it will debut a new concept vehicle, known as Koeru, that will “exceed existing category standards and stereotypes” in the crossover segment.

Along with the announcement, Mazda also released a teaser image of the new concept crossover. It features the signature Kodo design language, which includes defined wheel arches, a bold grille, and sporty lines, all of which indicate this could be a preview of a planned production model.

As expected, this concept will feature Skyactiv technology, which focuses on lightweight materials, fuel-efficient drivetrains, and an exhilarating driving experience. Mazda did not, however, get into the specifics of what will power this new crossover.

So, what exactly will this concept be besides just a new crossover? Well, it’s hard to tell from the teaser image, but I would guess that it is a performance-oriented crossover. Maybe this could also be the conceptual preview to the new-generation CX-9, which is set to launch with the turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv that will also reportedly power the upcoming Mazdaspeed3.

For now, this is little more than pure speculation, but it seems logical given the CX-9’s official debut is just around the corner at the LA Auto Show. Luckily, we won’t be guessing for too long, as the Frankfurt show opens to the press on September 17th, 2015. We’ll bring you all of the juicy details once they become available, so stay tuned.
