Jaguar has been on a roll lately with its F-Type and F-Pace, but it has also been hard at work recreating classic rigs that were “lost” in history. One was the Lightweight E-Type, which was launched in 2015, and the other is the upcoming XKSS. Today, Jaguar has revealed when the “lost” XKSS models will meet their new owners.

According to Jag, these continuation rigs will make their North American debut sometime this year and will be set for delivery in early 2017.

The XKSS, commonly called the first supercar, were the road-legal versions of the D-Type that won the Le Mans. In 1957, there were 25 of these models scheduled for delivery, but a fire at the plant resulted in the loss of a nine of them. With the success of the Lightweight E-Type recreation, Jaguar Classic decided to do the same with the XKSS and produce the nine lost models to 1957 specifications.

Being built to its original specs means that the XKSS continuation models will use a 3.4-liter straight-six engine that produces 250 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. While this engine isn’t much by today’s standards, the fact that the XKSS will weigh only around 2,200 pounds will make it plenty powerful to move this nimble cat around. For reference, the 1957 XKSS could hit 60 mph in as little as 5.2 seconds and topped out at 149 mph, making it one of the faster sports cars in its era.

We’ll bring you all of the official specs once Jaguar reveals them in the coming months, so stay tuned for more details.
