Rumors have flown around for years, and Lincoln has finally forged ahead with an incredibly dramatic reveal of the Continental Concept. Finally, the luxury brand has done something other than reface a Ford product, making huge waves in the market as buzz is starting to build that everyone could be witnessing a comeback like none other.

In all honesty, it’s hard for people to not get excited about the Continental’s return, but at the same time Lincoln couldn’t exactly fall off the floor. The MKS was such a pathetic half measure of a car that just about any concerted effort from Lincoln would create waves. Word is that the new Continental is headed to production, but likely in is a less-opulent form than the concept.

Powering the luxury concept is a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine, but no specs have been released. A Lincoln Drive Control system comes with three selectable modes: normal, sport and comfort. The rumor is that the Continental will use the same magical all-wheel-drive system as the new Ford Focus RS.

It might be hard to tell from the pictures, but the roof is actually not all metal. The sedan has a sunroof made of SPD SmartGlass that blocks out 99 percent of UV rays. From the side, the back end looks like Lincoln chopped it off a Bentley, while straight on it’s a mixture of Volvo and Audi. The nose has a surprisingly distinct and elegant look to it. Thanks to E-latch door handles, which are somewhat like those featured on the Tesla Model S, the sides maintain a smooth look. All in all, the design is surprisingly good, but when looked at critically it still has some wrinkles in need of ironing out.

The interior isn’t even in the same universe as current production Lincolns. A big emphasis is placed on the backseats, which is a smart move considering that the car is targeted primarily at Chinese car shoppers. Both seats are highly contoured, come covered with Venetian leather and can fully recline. The rear center console contains a champagne storage compartment and a tablet lap tray.
