Leak: Buick Regal GS to Add 60 Ponies to the Lineup

Buick is slowly pushing itself upmarket while carefully avoiding cannibalizing sister company Cadillac. The latest update for the automaker was the introduction of the new Regal Sportback, but we’re also waiting on the reported and confirmed Regal GS. Until today, the details were slim, but the automaker spoiled its own surprise by revealing the Regal GS’ output.

According to GM Authority, the summer 2017 issue of Buick’s B magazine showed off the 2018 Regal Sportback. In the article, however, it drilled down to the upcoming GS model and revealed its 310-horsepower output. That’s a pretty hefty boost when compared to the standard 2.0-liter engine’s 250 ponies, but not something I would tie to a true performance sedan.

But again, there is that whole cannibalization thing with Cadillac that Buick needs to avoid.

That’s not the only leak the Regal GS has endured, as Buick Canada let it slip that the GS will come with General Motors’ widely used 3.6-liter V-6 engine. While this report is unconfirmed, it seems to align with the “leaked” 310 horses.

The article goes on to talk about how the GS will stand out from other Regals. It mentions the Regal GS will feature “a unique textured grille, a jet-black interior, and a plethora of performance-enhancing features.” The latter will supposedly include a continuously variable damping control system and an Interactive Drive Control with three driving modes: Sport, Touring, and GS.

All this should be confirmed in the coming weeks, as we expect Buick to reveal the GS soon.

Stay tuned for updates.
