Automakers are a cryptic lot; between the teaser images and odd teaser quotes, it is sometimes hard to figure out what they are talking about. Case in point is Lamborghini’s teaser image for the 2014 Paris Auto Show. The image shows a quickly outlined supercar with a quote that reads “Once perfection is achieved, you can just double it” beneath it. If that’s not as cryptic as they come, then I don’t know what to say.
The consensus is that this is either a four-door supercar or a four-seat supercar. Both points have validity, but the latter makes a whole lot more sense. The reason this is not a four-door model is clear once you examine the image closely. It is obvious that this model has a slightly longer greenhouse than we’re used to on Lambos, but the proportions just don’t allow for rear doors as the rear air intakes are in the way. Additionally, the slightly extended roofline is clearly to allow for added headroom in the rear, and unless the engine needs extra space, that can only be for rear-seat passengers.
In a nutshell, I think we are about to see a four-seat concept car from Lamborghini. A mid-engine supercar that with its sights set on the Ferrari FF and the 911 Turbo S. Will we ever see a four-seat Lambo in production? Only time will tell, but the market is the best it has ever been for this sort of monstrosity. If the Panamera and Cayenne haven’t killed Porsche, then a 2+2 coupe shouldn’t spell the end of the Raging Bull.
Lamborghini is set to let us in on its secret on October 2, 2014 at 9:50 a.m. local time, so check back soon for all the juicy details.
