Much like the Gallardo had its own racing variants, its replacement — The Huracan  — is set to have its own race iterations. First up is the just-released Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, which is set to race in the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series in Europe, Asia and North America. Being a race car, this model takes all the awesomeness that is the Huracan and turns the volume way up.

Under its hood lies the same 5.2-liter, V-10 engine that the road-going Huracan features, but this direct-injected engine features an extra 10 horsepower to get it ready for racing, hence the “LP 620” in the name. These 620 ponies travel only to the rear wheels, while the road-going Huracan uses an AWD system.

Like all road-going cars turned race cars, the Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo went on a serious diet of carbon fiber and aluminum to drop its curb weight to just 2,800 pounds. That is a pretty spectacular drop from the standard model’s 3,135-pound curb weight. A significant portion of that can be attributed to the loss of the AWD setup. With the added power, this takes the Huracan Super Trofeo’s weight-to-power ratio down to just 4.5 pounds per horsepower, which is a nice drop when compared to the stock Huracan’s 5.14 pounds per horsepower.

Rounding out the modifications are a bunch of stick-to-the-road bits, including a massive front splitter, a rear diffuser, and a 10-position rear spoiler. Making good use of this added downforce is a set of specially developed, Pirelli tires.

The Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo made its debut at the 2014 running of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and look for it to debut on the race track in 2015.
