Koenigsegg has finally done it. The Swedish automaker recently insulted the “Holy Trinity” of hypercars: the Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Hybrid and McLaren P1. According to Koenigsegg, its own Agera R, which was put out in 2011, can take them all on, considering that it did 0 to 300 kmh in 14.53 seconds, which beats out any of the Holy Trinity by at least half a second.

Ouch.

On the blog post Koenigsegg put up on its website, it also points out that the even more powerful and lighter One:1 dashes from 0 to 300 kmh in just 11.922 seconds, completely obliterating the Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren.

Many worship the Holy Trinity hybrid hypercars and their all-around performance abilities, with the likes of Chris Harris, Evo and others putting them through the paces in drag races and various twisting, winding tracks around the world. Noticeably absent in these comparisons is even the mention of Koenigsegg, let alone one that is allowed to flex its muscles.

To argue that Koenigsegg’s cars shouldn’t be allowed in such comparisons because they’re not hybrids is misguided. While it’s great that gasoline-electric powertrains can achieve ground-shaking performance standards, they’ll not be taken as seriously if they’re not allowed to compete against more traditional cars that only have an internal combustion engine.

It should be understood that while some might find what Koenigsegg has to say as insulting, the Swedes go so far as to call the Holy Trinity cars “beautifully executed.” The company says it’s kept quiet about being excluded from the various comparisons, but that when a customer reached out about the whole issue, concerned that maybe his vehicle wasn’t all that fast, Koenigsegg felt compelled to respond. After all, why would respectable business owners, etc. want a car that couldn’t accelerate well past the speed limit in shockingly little time?

Hopefully this little throw down will result in Koenigsegg being allowed at the grownups table for the next big hypercar comparison.
