Kia Previews the 2016 Optima
The 2016 Kia Optima is set to make its debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show on April 1st, but ahead of that debut, the automaker has revealed a single image of the new sedan. As expected, this redesign isn’t revolutionary, as the 2016 Optima retains most of the key details that we know from the 2015 model, but there are some changes worth mentioning.
The nose appears to me as the most heavily updated part of the new Optima, but Kia has yet to reveal any images of the back end. Up front, the “Tiger Nose” grille is slightly thinner than the 2015 model, and there is no surround on the ends. This lack of a surround on the ends is an attempt by Kia to make the Optima look wider than it really is. The upper part of the grille surround now extends over the top of the completely redesigned headlights.
The front bumper also gets a healthy update. The lower air intake is all-new for 2016, and is more wide open than last year’s model. Additionally, the air intakes on the outer edges of the bumper are all-new as well.
I can only assume that the rear end has similar updates as the front, including redesigned taillights, an updated bumper, and other accents to help make it look wider.
The details on the 2016 Optima are still under lock and key, as this image is really all Kia gave us. It does mention in the press release that it will have multiple engine choices, a more spacious cabin, and plenty of premium features and tech that the 2015 Optima does not offer. Given the Optima is available with plenty of high-end features, I find that last statement intriguing.
April 1st is right around the corner, so keep it locked here for more details.
