Like an attention-starved child, some automakers will do just about anything to get you to look their direction. A recent example of this grab for attention was the assembly of a 2015 Ford Mustang on the top floor of the Empire State Building. Now, Jaguar is planning on getting into the world of shocking reveals when it unveils the new XF just before the 2015 New York Auto Show.

On March 24, 2015, Jaguar will use stuntman extraordinaire, Jim Dowdell, to drive the new XF across tightropes that are set high above water. There is no mention of how long the tightropes are or how high above the water this will take place, but Jaguar does mention that the tightropes are 1.34 inches in diameter, leaving little room for error.

The event will take place at 19:00 GMT (3:00 p.m. EST) on the 24th of March, and Jaguar will broadcast it live on the Internet at jaguar.co.uk/newxf.

The next-generation XF may not be an overly popular reveal, so I can see why Jaguar is pulling off this stunt. Many hardcore car enthusiasts, however, are interested in seeing what direction Jag will go with the new XF, as the brand continues to move toward becoming more lightweight and more fuel efficient.

The XF definitely follows the new path that Jaguar is taking, as it is only the second leaping cat model to feature the new aluminum-intensive architecture that the brand has been working on. Additionally, Jaguar is claiming fuel economy ratings as high as 70 mpg. I take that rating with a grain of salt, as that is likely an EU rating, which means that that number would never hold up in U.S. testing.

Just a few weeks after its high-flying debut, Jaguar will fully unveil the XF at the 2015 New York Auto Show on April 1st. Keep it locked here for all of the details.
