Jaguar Shelves Sports Cars For Electric Models

If you’re a fan of Jaguar sports cars, you’re not going to like the effect Tesla’s having on the brand. Thanks to the roaring success the California automaker has been having, the Brits now want to have a taste.

Automobile Magazine claims this means Jaguar is shelving plans for two new sports cars, pursuing new EV models instead. The first vehicle being put on the back burner is an XK coupe replacement. The other is the C-X75 supercar, which is incredibly disappointing to hear.

In all honesty, a coupe version of the XK seems like a weird and unnecessary idea. After all, Jaguar has the incredible F-Type. Also, big coupes aren’t exactly hot items on the market right now, and with the brand needing lots of cash to survive increasing competition, it needs some serious cash cows right now.

The first all-electric Jaguar that’s displacing these sports cars is a big four-door luxury coupe, according to Automobile Magazine. It supposedly will have a hatch in the rear and will go against the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class. This vehicle is codenamed X590 and should come out in 2018. While the Germans are working to create EV versions of their full-size sedans, Jaguar should get its to market about a year earlier, giving the Brits the edge they need.

In 2019, Jaguar will launch an all-electric SUV that’s based on the Range Rover. It will take on the Tesla Model X and competitors from several other brands. Supposedly, the Jaguar will be far more affordable than the Tesla.
